How does one start blogging?
They just start.
After many times saying “I really need to start blogging”, this is my start.
About Me
My name is Bill Bartlett. I’ve been deeply immersed in all aspects of software architecture, design, development, implementation, operations, and support for many years. I’ve been everything from a DBA to a Solutions Architect to a DevOps engineer to a front-line help desk person and everything in between. These days I focus mainly on server, database, and mobile platforms. I use Linux, Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android – I am very much OS-agnostic. I’m a Certified Ethical Hacker and a Certified Penetration Tester, and I’ve been a HIPAA specialist. I’ve done native mobile development since iOS 3 – my first “EMR-Lite” mobile app was the 5th EMR-related iPad app (and the 20th EMR-related iPhone app) to be released into the Apple iOS App Store. I’ve been on the “big corporate” side, I’ve been a consultant, and I’ve been with a few startups. (The startups were the most challenging, but also where I learned the most.)
I am a firm believer in teaching everything I know to anyone who wants to listen, and in learning everything I can from everyone else. Knowledge should be shared, given, and received. Always keep learning.
I have also been very involved in the Scouting program as an adult volunteer. I started as an Assistant Scoutmaster with a local Boy Scout Troop, worked as the Advancement Chair, became a Scoutmaster, helped found a Venturing Crew, retired as Scoutmaster but stayed on as the Eagle Coach, and I am still very involved as an Advisor with the Venturing Crew. I’ve done many camping trips, summer camps, and several High Adventure trips with both the Troop and the Crew. (I’ve been to Philmont, Sea Base, and Floodwood, and I still hope to go to Northern Tier.) I often looked for “teachable moments” for my Scouts, so my postings may reflect this.
The topics in this blog will probably be fairly diverse, from technical to database to management to “life lessons”. I hope I can give some information to help someone, the same way others have helped me, or at least perhaps entertain someone other than just me.

And so it begins…
